International Document Notarization — FAQ

Can US documents be notarized online for use abroad?

Yes. A NYS-commissioned Remote Online Notary can notarize US documents for international use via secure video session. For Hague Convention countries, an apostille is also required after notarization.

What is the difference between notarization and apostille?

Notarization verifies the authenticity of signatures. An apostille is an additional state certification that makes the notarized document legally recognized in 120+ countries under the Hague Convention.

Can I get documents notarized online if I am outside the US?

Yes. We can notarize documents for US citizens and residents located anywhere in the world via secure video session, as long as the document is governed by US or New York State law.

Do I need an apostille for every international document?

Only if the destination country is a Hague Convention member (120+ countries). For non-Hague countries, a different authentication process called "legalization" through the embassy is required — we can advise you on which applies.

How long does international document notarization take?

The notarization session itself takes 15–30 minutes. If an apostille is also needed, standard processing is 2–5 business days, with same-day expedite available.
